Residents Unite to Support Team Members with Scholarships
“Thank you very much for your generous donations toward our scholarships and for your passion to invest in our future…” … Evangelia Karoussos, Culinary Server, Friendship Village of Bloomington
These heartfelt words of gratitude reflect the impact that the scholarships from The Lifespace Foundation have had on our team members. Through the generous contributions of residents and team members, we have ignited a spark of hope for a brighter future for many team members.
The Lifespace Foundation Scholarship Program assists Lifespace team members in pursuing their educational goals. Those who support the scholarship program recognize the significance of a fulfilling career and the immense opportunities that continued learning and higher education can offer.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, the Foundation awarded $366,000 to 108 team members. In 2023, the Foundation awarded $272,814 in scholarships to 78 team members.
Communities bring the scholarship program to life!
The scholarship program is active in 11 of our 16 communities and growing, where celebrations are held to present the scholarships to team members and encourage continuous giving. Other scholarship program highlights include:
- Residents at Friendship Village of South Hills, Upper St. Clair, Pa., organize an annual golf tournament – the Friendship Village South Hills Golf Classic – to raise scholarship funds. In 2024, they collected $37,500. Says co-organizer Don McCaig, “Why wouldn’t we want to help our team members who mean so much to us?”
- At Harbour’s Edge, Delray Beach, Fla., Jane Coppa donated $35,000 in memory of her parents, long-time residents Simon and Doris Konover. As part of this, $10,000 was designated for a fundraising matching challenge for scholarships. Residents surpassed the matching amount by $3,000. The Jane K. Coppa Scholarship totals $5,000 each to benefit team members, with an emphasis on nursing.
- In 2023, Mike Wagner and other residents of Friendship Village Bloomington organized a successful matching challenge, raising $79,000 to fund 31 scholarships of $2,500 each. In 2024, they raised over $100,000 for 40 scholarships.
- At Oak Trace, Downer’s Grove, Illinois, Dave Humphreys, and the Foundation Advisory Committee have doubled the number of scholarship applicants, and the amount of money contributed by residents through a matching program. Dave says the scholarship campaign also serves to educate team members about the scholarship program
The Foundation scholarship program profoundly changes the lives of team members. We remain committed to supporting their educational aspirations and fostering a culture of learning, growth, and opportunity within our communities.
